I like how you have posted this. But then I look at your blog and think does this kid know anything about anything graphic? Even enough knowledge to tile the post AMEN? Really? Your blog is the epitome of cheep and fast crap that is on the internet these days, just like the new Sunset Motel sign. Sad, just sad is right. Think before you post or create a blog. Please.
Obviously a comment like Some Kid's deserves a response.
First off, who are you Some Kid? As hands down my most frequent commenter, I have tried for some time to guess your identity. Unless Some Kid is a general name given to anonymous comments.
What is wrong with titling a post AMEN?
I'm surprised that I have ignited this much frustration in someone. This blog's purpose is to serve as an avenue in which I can share things I find interesting--photos, music, bicycles, camping, etc.--with friends. Facebook felt too informal, sharing my thoughts with a lot of people who could care less. With a blog, I could share this information with people who cared enough to look me up occasionally. By no means do I see any importance in what I'm doing here, but to act as if I am polluting the internet is a bit much.
I would be interested in continuing this conversation, Some Kid, so please let me know what you think could be added, taken away or changed. If any one else happens to read this comments section, your input is welcomed.
You are not trying to be a graphic genius with your blog. And this blog is a way to inform those of your interest. Got it.
There are things you can do to make it more graphically, um how do I say this.. nice?. But I know you know people who can help you with that.
A first step is take a look at blogs you like and I guess try to emulate them. Or take influences from them.
To address your questions.
AMEN is to signify praise and agreement of what is being said. And that is totally understood. But one might say you are a non practicing follower of the religion of graphic design. Witch can be easily seen by the design and type choses of your blog. Hence leading back to my original comment. And when I say "Your blog is the epitome of cheep and fast crap that is on the internet these days" I am referring to the design not the content. If I thought the content was crap why would I be looking at it to start?
As for my identity. I choose Some Kid because it is anonymous and that is the way it will stay.
I come to this blog to do exactly as the ranger said, to involve myself in his passions and findings of current happenings.
I am all about criticism, and I am one to advocate the honest type. The honest type is the only true form of criticism. But seriously does it have to be so brash in execution?
I hope you two have made friends, and this all can move past. My comment on the Amen posting;
AMEN!
I love the great midwest and I am proud of the geographic location of missouri. Most people who travel through Missouri get the wrong picture, because of this mass stream of horrible graphic design and consecutive billboards which pave the way from town to town.
Missouri and the great midwest has so much to offer, especially in terms of recreation, from the katy trail which follows the great missouri floodplain (viewable from the I70 bridge over the missouri river) to the mountain biking of Rock Bridge to the fly-fishing of Bennett Springs. These among many locations in Missouri are truly amazing places.
The I70 corridor acts as a window in what people, who don't live in the area, speculate what "Missouri" is- cheap billboards and small towns.
I believe we can somehow associate the history of such horrible media to a relating aspect of the cheap american dream... fast, easy money. This is what I grasp from the Video. I am not a Graphic design aficionado or anything of the sort. I believe only after reading Some Kid's response, there could be improvement on the design of the page, But until such criticism, the blog has been easy on the eyes and allows me to focus on the content. The content I believe is and should be more important than worrying about the aesthetics of the blog page.
